What are Lip Fillers and why do we need them?

As lips age, they loose volume and plumpness. Fillers contain a substance which is already naturally found in the layers of our skin (Hyaluronic acid). This substance helps bind water found within your lips which adds volume and give lips giving a plumper, smoother, younger appearance.

Which brand of Lip Fillers do we use?

Juvederm. This is probably the leading of all the Fillers in the industry. It has been shown to be the most tolerable, long lasting and most importantly, give the best results.

How are Lip Fillers priced?

Many companies do not reveal their prices until enquiring or at consultation, however we like to be up front with our customers, so they know exactly how much it is going to cost them; plus we are rather proud of our prices too!

This is dependent on your requirements. There are different versions of Juvederm Filler that are better for various parts of the face and lips. Some clients want a subtle effect only, however others want a more pronounced effect, therefore they may need one or two vials of Filler.

Vermillion border – is the well demarcated border between the edge of the lips and the surrounding normal skin. Many clients choose to get more definition of this border so their lips give the subtle appearance of being more curled, and enhance the appearance of Cupid’s Bow, the central depression of the top lip, (found below the Philtrum).

Lip volume – other clients will choose to simply opt for more volume in their top and/or bottom lip. In this case, Filler is injected into the body of the lip(s).

treated.

Dr Chris will only inject Fillers into three areas on the face; nasolabial folds,

Marionette lines and the lips, as these are the most common and safest areas people

want treating. Many providers will try and ‘dabble’ in multiple different areas and

services. By concentrating on these three safe areas Dr Chris has become an expert in this practice.

Who can not receive Fillers?

People with certain conditions may not be suitable for Fillers, including:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women

  • Current skin infections over or near to the Filler injection site

  • Anyone who has previously had an allergy to Filler or an extreme allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to anything.

  • Local implants near to the Filler injection site

  • If you have received chemical peels or laser treatment to the area within 2 months prior to treatment.

  • If you are currently unwell

  • If you take antibiotics / blood thinning medications / receive chemotherapy

  • If you have heart disease

It is best to contact Dr Chris who will be happy to discuss your circumstances with you.

What is involved with the Lip Fillers procedure?

After going through a health check and discussing your needs we will run through the consent form with you to ensure you are happy to proceed. We will identify which lip(s) and area of the lips that you would like enhancing. Photographs will be taken to help demonstrate the improvement after treatment. A numbing cream which contains local anaesthetic is applied to the lips. Please arrive 15-30 minutes before your procedure to give the cream time to work, the longer the better! After your lips are sufficiently numbed, a small needle is used to introduce the Filler. Ice can be used in between injections to help keep the lips numb.

This whole process takes around 20-30 minutes.

Do I need to do anything before/after the procedure?

We ask that you wear no (or minimal) make up on the day to help prevent infection. Please arrive 15-30 minutes before your procedure to give the numbing cream time to work, the longer the better!

How long does the treatment last?

As with Botox, the lasting effects of Fillers vary from client to client. Most will still see effects after 9-12 months, however it does vary (6-18 months). Unlike Botox, the effects of Lip Fillers are seen pretty much straight away, however it can take a few days to see the full effects if any minor bruising occurs.

Are there any potential side effects?

Most clients tolerate Fillers well. As with any injection of any kind, local injection site bruising, tenderness and infection can occur, which should all settle after a couple of days and can be disguised with make up. Some clients feel some discomfort during the injections.

You should seek medical advice immediately if you are concerned about any potential side effects.
